What is it?
A: It is a biomass growing chamber that is used to sprout seeds and grains for livestock feed and human consumption.
How does it work?
A: Seeds or grains are spread onto the growing trays and are watered at predetermined intervals with overhead sprays while a set temperature is maintained inside the chamber to grow nutritious sprouts.
How do I use it?
A: You simply slide the feed out off the trays, rinse the tray, reseed the tray and push the newly seeded tray into the other end. The system holds enough trays so your desired amount of feed is there waiting for you everyday.
What does it grow on?
A: The sprouts grow on the Fodder solutions specially designed sprouting trays with no growing medium.
Can the systems be used outside in a paddock or do they need to be in a shed?
A: The systems can be used outside in a paddock but naturally they will perform better with lower running costs inside a shed or out of direct sunlight in the summer months.
What part do the animals eat?
A: The animals eat the whole lot of the sprouted tuft that is fed to them including the roots. Nothing is left in the feed trough.
What nutrients do you use?
A: Fodder solutions do not use any nutrients. Our years of research and economic studies of nutrients prove that nutrients are neither viable nor necessary.
What type of power is needed?
A: Only a single phase 15amp power supply is needed. The rooms come complete ready to plug a 15amp lead into the power socket.
How much do the systems cost to run?
A: The systems cost no more than $2/day in power costs to run as they are very well insulated and designed to be extremely power efficient.
What water source can we use?
A: Rain water, dam water and bore water are suitable to use. Fodder solutions can use any type of water to run the system provided it is clean or filtered. Fodder solutions can supply filters and water treatment devices if it is necessary to treat your water.
How much water do the sprouting systems use?
A: The general rule of thumb for the sprouting systems is that they use 2 litres of water for every kg of sprouts produced and approx 50% will run to waste.
Can you recycle the water?
A: Yes the water can be recycled, although most times it is not worth the water to recycle as some water is needed to back flush the filters for recycling.
How long does the barley fodder take to grow from the barley seed?
A: Generally it takes six days to grow from seeding to feed out. This can vary by 24 hours depending on how well you maintain a consistent temperature inside the system.
What size system do I need?
A: The system size depends on the type and size of the animals to be fed and what the system will be used for ie drought proofing, early weening or feeding stock horses etc.
How much should I feed to cattle?
A: You can feed cattle as little as 1% of their body weight per day in a drought situation, 3-5% of their body weight in sprouts per day combined with some roughage to maintain and gain weight.
How much do horses need to eat?
A: Horses generally eat between 5-10kg of sprouts per day but this can vary depending on the horse's daily workload.
What grains or seeds can I sprout?
A: You can sprout most grains and seeds even the sprouts you see in the supermarket such as alfalfa, sunflowers, mung beans, wheatgrass, fenugreek, onion, snow peas, etc.
How man different size systems do you make?
A: Fodder solutions can build small systems from 40kg/day through to 3000kg/day with as much or as little automation as you desire. Our most commonly sold systems are the 40kg/day, the 120kg/day and the best selling value for money system is the 240kg/day system.
Tell me more about the 40kg/day system?
A: The 40kg/day system holds 18 trays. 3 trays are reseeded and harvested each day on a seven day growing cycle. It measures 3000mm long x 1400mm wide and stands 3000mm high to the top of the airconditioner.
Please tell me more about the 120kg/day system?
A: The 120kg/day system holds 30 trays. 6 trays per day are reseeded and harvested on a six day cycle. It measures 4800mm long x 1400mm wide x 3000mm high.
Please tell me more about the 240kg/day system?
A: The 240kg/day system holds 60 trays. 12 trays per day are harvested and reseeded on a six day cycle. It measures 4800mm long x 2800mm wide x 3000mm high.
How do I place an order for a system and how long to delivery?
A: Fodder solutions normally ask for a 50% deposit but due to increased demand we are asking for a 10% deposit to conform the order. The delivery time can be up to 8 weeks but Fodder solutions always try to deliver within 4 weeks depending on current orders and workloads.
How much would freight cost?
A: Freight around Toowoomba is on an hourly rate of approx $70/hr. Further out around southern QLD, freight is approx $2.40/km. Over long distances freight is negotiated to be shipped in conjunction with a backload to cut down freight costs.
